so you want to make the most money with
your blog how do you structure your
content and link everything together to
rank for more keywords and make google
happy i mean we can all write articles
we can all look at reports and on-page
seo tools but what about the hidden
ranking factors what about other related
articles and information and how do you
link all of that together in the best
possible way to prop up our content and
improve our rankings well in this video
i'm going to cover exactly how to
structure your content so everything
from creating content silos to
internally linking stuff together to how
deep you need to go in each topic area
so that you can rank for more keywords
and make more money but before we get
started i want to invite you to watch my
free master class on how to start a
profitable blogging business it goes
over exactly what blogging is in the
2020s how i make over 300 000 a month
with my blog so make sure to click the
link in the description sign up for that
and let's get into the topic for today
so first we have to think about the
importance of content structure so when
we think about a blog we have a
collection of articles on a website but
how do those work together how do they
link together how do we create buckets
and silos of content and how do we make
this you know how do we do sub niches
how do we test different areas of
content how do we link it together all
of these things work together so when i
think about the importance of content
structure there's some main ranking
factors to rank on google there's your
on-page seo so that's like what's
actually on the article what words are
on there how is it formatted and
headings and all of that i have videos
on that so what's on the page what's on
the post then we can talk about links so
that's like the authority the domain
authority of the entire site the page
authority of the individual article how
many links are pointing to it but then
there's this third interesting ranking
factor and i know there's
hundreds of ranking factors but these
are the top three that i usually think
of number three is this depth of content
so that's things like site structure and
the supporting and informational
articles in your niche so you have one
article and it has great on-page seo
what if it's just living on its own
there's nothing linking to it there's no
supporting articles well that's a
problem as well so we need to solve that
a blog post to me is like one chapter in
a book so it could be a very good
chapter in a book but if it's just one
chapter and it's the only piece of
information you have on that topic then
it's not very trustworthy in google's
eyes they want to see a full picture a
full book tons of supporting content and
informational content so we need to
think of it that way just a blog post by
itself is not a complete picture so it's
like a chapter in a book so here's how
you make the most money with your
content really you have to think about
what posts make us the most money these
are the transactional product comparison
posts whatever you want to call them
they're the ones that you know recommend
the best types of products in your niche
and they make the bulk of your affiliate
revenue so some examples could be like
best crm best laptops best business
credit cards legal services sofas bikes
any products it's the roundup post it's
the ones that make the most money from
an affiliate standpoint and a
sponsorship standpoint people are
searching for a comparison of products
and a transactional intent that they
want to buy
and they're finding these articles so
these ones are the ones that make the
most money so how do we prop these ones
up so these are your best actors this is
like leonardo dicaprio on the wolf of
wall street chucking money away
you know being on screen most of the
time this makes up most of the bulk of
your money from your blog now this might
be just like one out of every 10 posts
but one out of every 10 blog posts could
make the most substantial income for
your blog but they can't be living alone
they need supporting informational
content so this is things like how-to
guides how to do things related to those
products buyer's guides how to choose
the products versus posts product a
versus product b
product reviews so individual reviews
the goal of these you know supporting
informational pieces is to prop up and
support those money-making posts so this
is like your supporting actor this is
like jonah hill and the wolf of wall
street this is the comedic timing and
other you know characters in order to
help that main best actor scenario so
we need the supporting informational
content in the niche to be successful so
here's some examples of best of content
i'm going to go over these individually
we can look at these different websites
and articles and see how they're
propping up this best
post so we have video conferencing
software backpacking backpacks modular
sofas laptops and then how to start a
business and i want to kind of show you
the content structure of these and how
they're propping them up and using this
content structure and internal linking
so first is best video conferencing
software
when i searched for best video
conferencing software this one ranked
really well and we can see well what is
it doing well really it's just a simple
list
so nothing fancy here but what it does
do
is it has supporting content and related
articles so in video conferencing
software it also has like zoom versus a
lot of versus content alternatives and
that's pretty much it so it has those
supporting articles it also has like you
know zoom equipment acoustic panel zoom
room so it has supporting internal links
not a ton but just some at the bottom
let's check out another one this is best
backpacking backpacks switchback travel
and again it's a list post of
backpacking backpacks transactional
comparison posts um let's see so looks
like here they do have a full review so
like they have number one then they
actually have a full review and you can
click in that and see the individual
review of that product
you can see the in-depth review here so
every single product in the list
actually has a separate review that's
propping this up and linking to this to
prop up the page so every single one has
a review and then if you go down to the
very bottom and i keep scrolling
scrolling scrolling scrolling you'll see
that there's other you know guides and
related buyers guides so backpack fit
and sizing guides if you're buying a
backpack you need to know how it fits
informational content
more backpacking gear reviews and then
related stuff related to tents how to
pack a backpack so that's a good how-to
informational piece of content in the
niche so you'll see that by itself you
know it wouldn't really work if it
didn't link to all these other
reviews and have other pieces of
information propping it up this one
ranks the best for that let's take a
look at another one best modular sofa so
this is livingcozy.com 15 of the best
modular sofas you can buy let's see so
they have another internal link here to
best couches they have this one here
that's not an internal link that one's
not so there's not a ton but see they
have a full review of the first product
on the list so that's a full review
and
they don't have a
they don't have a full review for number
two so just one they have some
uh
information on mid-century modern sofas
they do have a full review of this
product they have you know coffee tables
where it's related
modern modular furniture so a lot of
internal links on related uh product
categories and a few reviews so it
doesn't have to be perfect like if i go
all the way down to the bottom let's see
if there anything else that we see
just a list
but again
on its own just as an affiliate post it
needs the supporting content so it has
individual reviews
buying a sectional sofa so this is again
similar related content but it's not
perfect it's not ideal like there's some
reviews missing
it's not doing a ton of how-to and
informational content in the niche but
it's not 100 required for some things
like this is ranking well it covers it
enough so let's see another example
that's laptop so this is tom's guide and
we've got the best laptops let's see
what they have so they have
a review of windows 11. they're also
reviewing macbook pro 14-inch best
laptops you can buy so dell xps 13.
you can see their affiliate links here
and then they have a full review
this is not interested in this there's
another review so then apple macbook air
affiliate links
full review so every single one has a
full review so these reviews
might not be searched as much as best
laptop but they're living underneath as
like child pages and really propping up
this one with more informational content
so that's really helpful then if we just
keep going down you know we can see
if there's anything else and they have
best keyboard best mouse related content
and that's about it now i want to give
you an extreme example of site structure
and internal linking and how this future
of content kind of is going towards this
like long form kind of more landing page
approach so when we when i googled how
to start a business the number one
result for me was this sba.gov article
and this is the number one result for
how to start a business and we look at
the article
10 steps to start your business
it's not actually an article it's a hub
page it's a hub page that's giving you
all of the different steps to start a
business but then you have to click into
the actual content so choose a business
structure if i click there then it gives
me the content learn more so ultimately
this is a an extreme example of what you
can do and think when you start thinking
about like one chapter of a book as a
blog post like you you can do this kind
of stuff where
it needs supporting content like yes you
could write an article on how to start a
business and it could be 20 000 words
long
or you create seven articles about how
to start a business you lay it out and
you make it the best possible experience
for the user so those are just some
specific examples of
what types of content you can add like
reviews informational posts content
structure and siloing in order to rank
the main term on google
so let's take a look at like this for
example so let's say your money page is
uh at the top and you really want to
rank for something well then you have
your supporting articles underneath you
have your supporting articles they're
linking up to that main article as like
child articles going up to the parent
article and then you might have a few
links going down like supporting the
article so it could be something like
this so like if this is best crm
software and you want to rank for this
money term then what other articles and
supporting content do we need well
here's five examples how to choose a crm
that would be helpful crm benefits so
the benefits of using them and then
maybe an individual review like hubspot
review versus a comparison post hubspot
versus salesforce and then another
informational post what is a crm and you
can see that you know there's different
ways to do this like people talk about
the perfect formula for internal linking
up and down and do i do it this way or
sideways sometimes it just helps you
know everyone does it a little bit
differently there's no perfect answer to
but as you see here we can link down
like if there's an article on best crm
software i can say something like when
choosing the best crm software and link
down to the how to choose
and then i can say there's other
benefits to it and then i can you know
do number one and maybe it's hubspot or
number two or three and then i can say
read our full review here and then you
can see or if you're interested in this
comparison link to that and then if you
want to
define the term go to another article so
all of these things how to's benefits
reviews verses and what is are all ways
to create more informational content
around your money page so that it's not
just one chapter in a book it's a full
picture of the niche because that's what
google wants to see so here's what you
can do really the hidden ranking factor
in a lot of this is your depth of
content and content structure it's not
on ph seo and authority but there's also
this metric as well you need to blanket
your niche and you need to find
supporting content with keyword research
tools so that can be other informational
post types like how to
verses reviews how to choose this type
of product in your niche statistics the
benefits of it what is use a tool and
try to find like matching terms tool to
find these different variations and then
just start you know trying this in your
niche with maybe instead of saying i'm
just going to do one article on
crm software or one article on
camping tents i'm going to do an article
on the best camping fence how to choose
them
different reviews and comparisons so you
have a little bit more in-depth area of
content and you're propping it up to
give a fuller picture because that's
what google wants to see the good news
is that the supporting articles they're
really easy to write so something like
how to choose
a you know email marketing software or
how to choose the best tent it's kind of
a feature driven article that isn't that
long maybe it's a thousand words fifteen
hundred words doesn't need a ton of
imagery they're actually if you look at
them and you start looking and analyzing
sites and what they're writing they're
not that long they're not that in-depth
they're mainly there is to prop up the
main articles they make money with
then we talk about this you know what is
the golden ratio of this transactional
versus informational content 70 30 60 40
50 50. i've wavered on this a few times
i used to say like 70 30 maybe it's 60
40 or 50 50. i think it's different for
every niche and area so
sometimes you don't need as much
informational posts to rank if i'm
writing about the best
transcription software am i going to
write 10 articles and information about
transcription no but if i'm writing
about the best website builders then i
probably need
8 to 10 supporting articles around how
to choose them versus reviews
lots of informational content so each
niche is a little bit different
based on the popularity of the product
and how many people search for it how
many people want to look for
and buyers guides and things like that i
would say to be safe to be as safe as
you can to stick with like 60 40 just
go with the transactional content but
it's a little bit different every niche
but you need both
now you can treat your money post as
your main hub of monetization so central
is these examples of the best you know
list posts in your niche
informational content versus reviews all
around it to prop that up some of them
may never rank like the reviews might
never rank some of the how to choose
might not have that much search volume
but it's just there to prop up that page
and make it
basically make you more money
you also have to be aware of your own
url structure
so there's a lot of information out
there and articles on information
architecture and exactly how to you know
create your url structure one of the
best formats is to nest the reviews and
versus posts underneath the parent topic
if you can so for example if i have
adam info.com you know email marketing
software i would do the new dash and
then my you know hubspot review or
mailchimp review would live after it now
that's a good way to nest pages
underneath to show the hierarchy to show
that your money posts are
the high level main posts that you want
to
uh prioritize but it can be a little bit
difficult to manage so i would just say
don't worry about it don't overthink it
or try to perfect it you might have seen
from those examples everyone does this
stuff differently
and google just wants more that's what
it comes down to they want more content
when i look at these major media sites
they might be publishing 15 or 20
articles a day blanketing these
different niches so how do we compete
with that as individual bloggers well we
just have to be aware that we find these
pockets and sub niches
where we can rank we create the best of
transactional posts and then we create
in some informational content around it
you know you don't want to just do the
one post by itself and have no other
supporting articles so we have to have
both
and ultimately content that ranks has
great on page seo and authority but it
needs that topical authority with depth
of content so if you want to be known
for something in your niche you got to
write about it you got to write it about
it a decent amount you can't just rank
for things randomly in different areas
so i hope you found that useful if you
